About the workshop
We’re teaming up with the Sustainable Farm s team to run a practical\, on-farm workshop all about farm dams.
Farm dams play an important role in agricultural productivity and water security\, and when managed well\, they can also provide valuable habitat for native wildlife. This half-day session will share practical\, research- backed ideas for improving dam health\, water quality\, and long-term resil ience on your property.
We’ll also touch on the broader biodiv ersity benefits of enhanced dams\, including the role they can play in supp orting endangered species in our region.
Who should come
All are welcome\, no prior knowledge needed! This workshop may be particularly useful to:
Farmers and graziers< /p>
Landholders (conservation or hobby properties)
Those with an interest in native speci es\, biodiversity\, and/or conservation
W hat to expect
We will be out on a local property for a h alf-day session with the Sustainable Farms team\, who will share insights f rom long-term ecological research on farms across the region. There will be a mix of talking\, looking at real examples\, and time for questions. We'l l finish up with a provided lunch\, offering a chance to chat and connect.< /p>
A few things to note:
No dogs or pets a re permitted on site
Walking across a paddock (uneven terrai n) is required to access the dam.
There is a building site o n the property. Please be aware of hazards and follow all safety directions from the event host and property owner.

The webinar features two expert speakers. Dr David Watson is an ecologist who has spent over 20 years studying mistletoe and its relationships with w oodland species. His work has helped shift perceptions of mistletoe from an unwanted parasite to a key player in biodiversity. Kristy Peters leads the ‘Restoring Mistletoe on Wonnarua Country’ project\, working with landholde rs to restore habitat for the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater. She is actively involved in reintroducing mistletoe to key habitats in the Hunt er Valley\, providing important food and shelter for woodland birds.
This free webinar is open to anyone interested in native plants\, wildlife\ , and conservation\, no matter where you live. It is especially relevant fo r landholders and bird enthusiasts.

Join us for an engaging field day focus ed on the conservation and wise management of Box Gum Grassy Woodlands (BGG W)\, a unique and endangered ecological community. This event\, held in col laboration with Friends of Grasslands\, is designed to deepen your understa nding of the key components of BGGW ecosystems and inspire practical conser vation actions.

We’ll start at Nelanglo TSR\, where renowned ecologist Dr Sue McIntyre will lead a guided walk through a well-preserved BGGW site. Dr McIntyre\, an expert with over 30 years of experience with CSIRO and major ecological projects\, speciali ses in native grassland and grassy eucalypt woodland ecology and restoratio n. We’ll also be joined by Dr Michael Lenz\, who will provide valuable insi ghts on woodland bird species in the area.
Following our walk at Nela nglo TSR\, we’ll head to the Gunning Showgrounds. This location\, though co nsidered an Endangered Ecological Community\, has a significantly degraded understory. This contrast will provide an opportunity to discuss management strategies and practical steps that landholders and conservationists can t ake to rehabilitate and enhance these landscapes.

Mistletoe is often misunderstood as a harm ful parasite\, but in fact\, it plays a vital role in supporting biodiversi ty. Native mistletoe provides food\, nesting sites\, and shelter for a wide range of birds\, insects\, and animals. So\, far from it being damaging\, mistletoe is part of a healthy\, functioning ecosystem.
In this works hop\, you’ll learn about how to to conserve and restore mistletoe in woodla nd ecosystems. You’ll also get practical\, hands-on training in how to prop agate mistletoe\, including:
How to collect and prepare mistl etoe fruit
Choosing appropriate host plants
T echniques for successful mistletoe planting
If you have fru iting mistletoe on your property\, and the fruit easy to reach\, bring a co uple dozen ripe fruits (with stems attached) along to the workshop. You’ll have the chance to trade fruit with other participants to take home differe nt genetic stock. This helps increase the genetic diversity of mistletoe on your land\, making future populations stronger and more resilient.
After the workshop (which should take about an hour)\, join us for a f ree group lunch\, meet fellow participants\, and sw ap mistletoe fruit!
If you have a little extra time\, stick around to take part in a community planting session to help support local regeneration efforts. You can stay and plant one\, or a few i f you can spare the time.

Gunning District Landcare warmly invites the community to the official opening of the Gunning Showground Bus hland Park. The ceremony will take place on Sunday 22 June from 2:00–2:45 p m\, followed by light refreshments at the Gunning Shire Hall.
Over t he past two years\, Landcare volunteers have been working to restore five a cres of bushland in the south-western corner of the showground. The transfo rmation includes the removal of invasive weeds\, planting of native plant s pecies\, installation of new fencing\, accessible walking paths\, seating\, a yarning circle and interpretive signage. This exciting project was made possible thanks to generous funding from the NSW Government’s Stronger Coun try Communities Fund.
Please arrive between 1:30 and 1:45 pm at the Gunning Shire Hall on Copeland Street. Volunteers will guide you from there . It’s a short walk to the Bushland Park\, with the option to drive for tho se with limited mobility. In case of wet weather\, the ceremony will be hel d in the Hall.

Learn skills with the expert tuition of Brian Rapsey while making a short documen tary film over 4 workshop sessions. \;
This project has been made possible with funding from Inspiring Australia and will feature topics suc h as regenerative farming\, soil health\, conservation and threatened speci es. \;
Successful applicants will be paired with a local champion doing great works in the environmental sector and create a short film. You r short film will be screened as part of the Champions of Change Film Festi val screening in Gunning\, Yass and Upper Lachlan.
The shortlisted projects for the HumeLi nk Community Investment and Benefits program will be released from 1 September 2025.
The program is designed to ensure communit ies share in the positive outcomes of the project by providing targeted fun ding for initiatives that will deliver lasting social\, environmental\, and economic benefits.
Proponents of the shortlisted projects have the o
pportunity to speak to the public at community drop-in sessions. These sess
ions will allow organisations to showcase their initiative to their local c
ommunity\, including project scope\, expected benefits and implementation p
lans.
Gunning District Landcare's project has been shortlisted and w
